Leeds
This fast growing city has a history stretching back about 1500 years. There are a number of large organisations based here, and strangely a number of supermarkets have their roots in this area. It is close to the Dales, and yet at its lowest point it is only 10m above sea level.
15 Nov 2009: Roundhay Park. I have been to this park on the other side of the city twice, which is a shame as it is quite pleasant.
Dahlia Delight: Bees love the dahlias. They are also particularly fond of blue flowers, possibly due to their visibility in the ultra-violet spectrum (Bjørn Rørslett's website here). These were taken from about 4ft away with the 300mm AF-s f/4, which performs as an excellent long range macro even without a teleconverter.
Golden Acre: This large park on the road to Otley provides photographic opportunities all year round.
Harewood House: With extensive grounds, woods, red kites and deer, this large estate provides some good photographic opportunities.
Calverley Woods: A summers day, flowers covering fields and the copper beeches adding a deep maroon to the palette
Swinsty Reservoir: One of a series of dams resting in a valley between Otley and Pateley Bridge.
Dan and Beth: The bluebells were out at Golden Acre and dad and daughter wanted some pictures. This was taken with a 50mm f1.2 wide open.
Apperley Bridge Moorings: Travelling the waterways at a leisurely 5mph, barges are brightly painted and surprisingly well appointed inside.
Snow at 8pm: Sodium street lights reflected by the clouds and snow give the landscape an eerie glow.
